Devilish Impressions: Diabolicanos (act III: Armageddon)
28/01/08 || Lord K Philipson
“Extreme modern black/death metal” is what the info-sheet says. We all know I’m up for shit like that sometimes, and Devilish Impressions (what is it with bands and their fucken monikers these days?) is a band that I can easily add to the list of groups who do their shit real well and one that will stay in my collection for some every-now-and-then listen.
Hailing from Poland, DI’s second album is full of well-produced, catchy and flawlessly executed metal. Something we have grown accustomed to over the years when we are dealing with bands from Poland, right? I can’t really say that it’s as “extreme” as the info-sheet would like us to believe (we all know how fucken accurate those sheets usually are), there’s more focus on melodies and atmosphere – something I don’t mind the least. They weave together some (early) Dimmu Borgir-esque parts with those trademark clean vocals of theirs with the usual black metallish screams and some Zyklon-reminding throat-efforts as well. You can also hear quite a bit of Zyklon parts within the music which is yet another plus in my book. They might be from Poland but they sure took a look at their Norwegian colleagues while creating the stuff for this cd.
I need to pick up these guys’ first album coz if it’s anything like this – there’s no way I won’t like it. Poland fucken rules, obviously. When the Poles are at their lowest, they still kick all kind of fucken ass. Impressive.
End note. Look at the title of the 7th tune… Wow, now you really know these guys mean business. Get the fuck out of here.
7,5/10.
